School Drop Offs and Pick Ups
General Points
- Parents/Carers/family members/friend etc. cannot access the school premises at the start or end of the school day (unless accessing the main office) either on foot or in any form of transport to drop off or collect their child
- The only exception to this is if a pass has been awarded allowing access to the school site at the above times – passes will be reviewed termly.
School Transport – Safe Drop Off at the start of the School Day
- The school gate opposite the main entrance to the school will be closed between 8.45am and 9.10am and the zebra crossing will be “coned off” to prevent access to the front of the school.
- Transport dropping children off at the school enters the premises through the main school gate and follows the circular track on the yard; stopping to drop the children off at the main corridor entrance to the school before exiting the school via the track.
School Transport – Safe Release at the end of the School Day
- The school gate opposite the main entrance to the school will be closed between 3.00pm and 3.25pm and the zebra crossing will be “coned off” to prevent access to the front of the school.
- Transport should be on the school yard by 3.15pm waiting to collect the students.
- All transport waits on the yard until staff signal release when they have checked that there are no students on the yard.
- Cars and Taxis will be released first followed by school buses
Home to School Transport
School Transport is currently available for children living in the areas outlined in the school’s admissions policy – Middleton St George, Middleton One Row, Neasham, Bishopton, Sadberge, Great Stainton, Little Hurworth School are able to offer fare paying places on existing routes to parents/carers of secondary age students; however, there will be a cost for this provision, and we are unable to guarantee that every child who applies will be allocated a place. This offer only applies to students living two miles or more from the school.
A fare paying place on school transport is currently available for students living in the following areas: Middleton St George, Middleton One Row, Bishopton, Sadberge, Great Stainton, Little Stainton and the Geneva Road/Parkside area of Darlington. Transport is also available for students living in Neasham, the rural areas of Sockburn, Low Dinsdale and Hurworth Moor.
It is a parents / carers responsibility to get their child to school and your choice of school should not be affected by the availability of transport

Statutory Transport
Darlington Borough Council has a duty to make the necessary travel arrangements for ‘eligible children’ under Section 508B of the Education Act 1996.
The Council will provide ‘free’ transport in the following circumstances:
- Children who attend the nearest appropriate and/or suitable school determined by the Local Authority, if that school is more than 3 miles from the parents/carers home using the shortest walking route judged to be safe.
- Children whose parent(s) are in receipt of free school meals or the maximum level of working tax credit will be eligible for free home to school transport to one of their 3 nearest appropriate and/or suitable schools, if that school is more than 2 miles and less than 6 from the parents/carers home using the shortest walking route judged to be safe.
- Children whose parent(s) in receipt of free school meals or the maximum level of working tax credit will be eligible for free home to school transport to one of their 3 nearest appropriate school preferred on grounds of religion or belief where that school is more than 2 miles but less than 15 from the parents/carers home using the shortest walking route judged to be safe.
- Children who cannot access their nearest appropriate and/or suitable school using an identified ‘safe route to school
