Homework

We believe that all students should develop skills as independent learners. Home study plays an important part in the development of this skill and is essential if students are to achieve maximum success in their work.

Homework at Hurworth allows students to build on the non-negotiable knowledge covered in class. In addition, it provides opportunities to inspire and develop a wider understanding of key topics and concepts.

Key Stage 3

In English, Maths and Science students are set activities through on- line platforms. Students will complete I hour of homework per week.

For other subjects students will complete the equivalent of 30 minutes per fortnight. This could be a series of shorter tasks or a longer research/ creative task.

Key Stage 4

Homework will be set to complement the course students are following and prepare them for their qualifications. For option subjects, students will complete 1 hour of homework per fortnight. For core subjects they will complete 1 hour per week. The schedule will be determined by the Head of Department in each subject area.

All homework will be set on ClassCharts.

Please inform your child’s form tutor if circumstances arise which make difficult the provision of the right conditions in which homework may be undertaken. There are weekly homework clubs which students can attend both at lunchtime and afterschool.
