Health and Social Care

Health & Social Care

Why do we study Health & Social Care?

We study Health & Social Care at Hurworth School to equip our students with specialist knowledge and skills that can be used every day, can be transferred to other subject areas and will help to prepare our students for life post 16. Developing subject knowledge of Health, Social Care and Early Years settings and the services they provide helps our students to have a better understanding of the responsibilities care practitioners have when working within these services, and the skills they need to have to successfully carry out their role, which will allow students to be prepared for employment, not just in the Health & Social Care sector, but in all employment roles.

The delivery of the curriculum in Health & Social Care is hands-on allowing students to demonstrate their understanding through practical tasks as well as presenting written work through the creation of a project.  Lessons will challenge all our students, providing the opportunity to achieve in line with their ability. In doing so, the Health & Social Care Department aims to provide an environment whereby all students feel they can be successful, and where all students feel valued and respected.  In providing an enjoyable and memorable curriculum, The Health & Social Care Department aims for all students to develop the concept of learning as desirable, enjoyable and a lifelong concept which they continue to develop post 16 and throughout their own careers.
